RT Review T1 Lo Spirito soffia nel deserto: Carismi, discernimento e autorità nel monachesimo egiziano antico. By Fabrizio Vecoli JF The journal of theological studies VO 60 IS 1 SP 288 OP 289 A1 Casiday, Augustine 1976- LA English YR 2009 UL https://ixtheo.de/Record/1783724749 AB The book under review surveys charisma and its exercise as related in early Egyptian monastic literature. Dr Vecoli's approach to the material is signalled from the opening lines of the introduction—an extended quotation from Peter Brown's The Making of Late Antiquity. Vecoli's study is informed by an approach to the social history of late ancient Christianity that will be familiar to readers of Brown's books. Thus, the discussion of charisma is indebted to Max Weber's sociological explorations. He also references his work to Christian debates from Harnack to Küng about charisma amongst the earliest Christians. K1 Rezension DO 10.1093/jts/flp020
