Summary: | The contributions to this celebratory volume in honour of Michael Lattke are arranged in alphabetical order by author. Pauline Allen reads the Mariology of John 2:1–11 as interpreted by Augustine of Hippo as primarily about the refutation of Manichaeans; she questions whether Augustine's insistence on reading the whole passage as a mystery can contribute much to the scholarly assessment of the development of the cult of Mary. Sebastian Brock provides a translation of Jacob of Serugh's poem on the Sleepers of Ephesus; the translation is from Vatican Syr. 115 with notes indicating the variant readings in the later Vatican Syr. 217, which are mostly secondary expansions. |
