Professor Snodgrass's magnum opus on Jesus’ parables, however, is surely as close to an authoritative reference work on the parables as we shall see for years to come. Yet it is written not in the detached manner of an encyclopedia, but as a friendly, clear, and detailed guide through the maze of interpretative possibilities, parable by parable. In options surveyed and background literature referred to, it is as comprehensive as would be humanly useful (or feasible!). 278 out of 846 pages comprise appendices, notes, bibliography, and indexes. But the main text by itself is admirably accessible to any serious reader. Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic are transliterated and translated. |
