Summary: | For nearly thirty years, numerous students have used John F. Healey's primer on the Syriac language. The grammar is now more widely available after spending the first 25 years of its life as a limited, photocopied publication by the University of Birmingham (University Semitic Study Aids, 6) under the title First Studies in Syriac, now the subtitle of Leshono Suryoyo., Healey is the Professor of Semitic Studies at the University of Manchester, and is widely known for his research on the dialects of Aramaic, as well as his The Early Alphabet: Reading the Past (Berkeley: University of California Press, 1990). For many years he has taught a variety of languages to undergraduates and postgraduates, including Syriac. |
