Riepilogo: | This book is a product of the desire to re-evaluate the life and work of Charles Wesley (1707–88) in the tercentenary anniversary year now ended. Gareth Lloyd's work is rather different from two other notable contributions: a more popular biography by Gary Best and a series of scholarly essays collected by Ted Campbell and Kenneth Newport, examining his life, literature, and legacy, both published by Epworth Press in 2007., Lloyd provides us with solidly grounded work on Charles Wesley, based on his extensive knowledge as archivist of the primary sources mainly held in the John Rylands University Library, Manchester, where he works as part of its custodianship of the connexional archives of the Methodist Church. |
