In 88 pages (together with ample endnotes, referring mostly to Farrer's own works), we are given chapters on central aspects of his thought, together with a brief outline of his life—and a nice collection of photographs. Not surprisingly, the chapters overlap a good deal, for Farrer's thought was all of a piece, with philosophy and literary theory dovetailing and affecting one another. In many ways, his Bampton Lectures, The Glass of Vision, are the centrepiece of all he did, but you might equally find it in a sermon written for a college chapel on a Sunday evening in the 1960s. | ||
