Summary: | For the last decade Adrian Thatcher has published and edited a series of books on marriage, cohabitation, and families, including Marriage after Modernity (Sheffield Academic Press, 1999) and Living Together and Christian Ethics (Cambridge University Press, 2002). In these he always pays careful attention both to social scientific evidence and to (sometimes conflicting) biblical evidence, balancing generally liberal sentiments with a determination to be rigorously theological. The overall blend is distinctive, informative, and, frequently, polemical. His new monograph displays all of these qualities in abundance., Those familiar with his work will find overlap in Theology and Families with his earlier books. Perhaps that is inevitable. |
