| Summary: | Charles Munier's translation of and commentary on Justin Martyr's two Apologies (the first of the two books reviewed here) was originally destined for the Sources chrétiennes series; however, ‘au fils des ans, ce commentaire a pris une telle extension qu'il est devenu incompatible avec la dimension habituelle des volumes de [cette collection]’. A solution was thus found by Les Éditions du Cerf in the separate publication of the commentary and the edition. Both volumes are substantial, informative, and scholarly. Both also share a number of the same weaknesses. |
