What he is doing, in effect, is to displace the form-critical hypothesis (with its decades of oral transmission, preservation of tradition by anonymous communities, and alterations of the tradition to suit the needs of various church contexts) for one in which named eyewitnesses act as interpreters, preservers, and guarantors of the tradition. | ||
