AB This study is a revised version of a doctoral thesis undertaken at McGill University's Faculty of Religious Studies, under the supervision of Professor Ian Henderson. One of the major differences between the thesis and the published volume is that the lengthy appendices of the former are not included. However, these tabulations of enthymeme analysis are readily available online ( ). The methodology of enthymeme analysis is derived from the discipline of narrative criticism in the wider field of literary studies. Enthymemes are seen as the highly significant small units that construct deductive arguments.
