Summary: | Moloney's book collects together some previously written essays on John, many of which are not readily available today. Throughout, he argues with conviction that ‘Text without context is pretext’ (p. 135), and he presents a powerful defence of the claim that this Gospel presupposes an already Christian audience. The evangelist requires his readers to ‘Go on believing’ (John 20:31), which represents a demand that they go further in their commitment, beyond culturally and religiously based understandings of Jesus, into the full possibilities of mature faith. |
