Summary: | The ICC three-volume commentary on Matthew by Davies and Allison has become a standard work, especially in English-speaking scholarship. Nevertheless, its size (three volumes and well over 2,000 pages) has inevitably made it less accessible for non-specialist readers. Dale Allison has thus excerpted some of the material from the fuller work in this shorter commentary on Matthew. One key feature is that the commentary now makes no assumptions about the reader's knowledge of Greek: it is not based on the Greek text as such, but on an English translation (Allison's own). |
