After four papers on Christology, focusing mainly on the Church of the East, the spotlight turns on invocations of the Holy Spirit. Three of the papers are surveys of baptismal and eucharistic epicleses in the various Syriac liturgical traditions; four are then devoted to the influence on the vocabulary of Syriac liturgy and theology of the term used to translate ‘the power of the Most High will overshadow (πισκισει/naggen) you’ of Luke 1:35 (the related terms in the Hebrew Bible and Palestinian Targum are also considered).
