Three of the papers are surveys of baptismal and eucharistic epicleses in the various Syriac liturgical traditions; four are then devoted to the influence on the vocabulary of Syriac liturgy and theology of the term used to translate ‘the power of the Most High will overshadow (πισκισει/naggen) you’ of Luke 1:35 (the related terms in the Hebrew Bible and Palestinian Targum are also considered).
