Over the last quarter-century or so the unsatisfactory character of this cut-off date for the study of Patristics has been increasingly realized by scholars and, as far as Greek authors are concerned, the much more satisfactory time-span embraced by Maurice Geerard's Clavis Patrum Graecorum, up to the mid-eighth century, has come to be widely followed. This of course left a gap as far as all traditional patrologies are concerned.
