It mainly consists of papers from a conference held in Jerusalem in 1999, which drew together a distinguished group of contributors, both from within Israel, associated especially with the Centre for the Study of Christianity in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and from other countries. The subject is the history of Christianity during the first half of its history, until the time of the Crusades. It is divided into two parts. The first is historical, with a series of essays showing the successive stages in the history of the churches in this period.
