As stated in the introductory chapter, Wagner takes the concept of legitimation from Max Weber, but he then quickly loses sight of Weber's theory in favour of a classic historical-critical textual analysis of 1 Sam. 8 – 2 Sam. 1. The work falls into two parts: Part I offers a detailed analysis of the texts and Part II aims at the contextualization of kingship as portrayed in 1 Samuel. | ||
