Description
Summary:For the Old Latin of Ruth we are dependent on the tenth-century MS 109 in Madrid and on the commentary by Claudius of Tours (ninth century) plus a few citations in Ambrose. Discussions about the figure of the Moabitess occur in Latin patristic writings but few fathers ever quote from Ruth, nor is there anything significant in Latin liturgical texts. Nevertheless, as a consequence of this limited material Bonifatia Gesche, a sister at Mariendonk Abbey, has been able to complete the introductory matter and the text with apparatus in one normal-sized fascicle of Vetus Latina. Typically, one finds half a verse of the biblical text per page in this series; for Ruth two or more verses can appear on a page.
