Summary: | Tet-Lim N. Yee's monograph proposes a novel interpretation of Ephesians, especially Ephesians 2. All other recent interpreters, it is claimed, have misunderstood the letter, because they have not brought to bear ‘the new perspective on Paul’ (NPP), which would have enabled them to set the letter more fully in its Jewish context. In particular, this should be done with one key passage, Eph. 2:11–13, which, if its author's Jewish attitudes were taken seriously, would then be seen to conceal ‘explosive’ issues. The explosive issues, apparently, are twofold. First, Jews are being indicted for their narrow ethnocentrism, perhaps not a surprising proposal, given that this is one of the main axioms of the NPP's analysis of first-century Judaism. |
