Summary: | In 2002 Anderson and Giles produced a general history of the Samaritans, The Keepers. In the present volume they have complemented this with an extensive introduction to Samaritan literature. For nearly four centuries this literature has been the cause of dispute which ranged far beyond the Samaritans themselves, with Catholic scholars in the West claiming that the supposed similarity between the Samaritan Pentateuch and LXX lent support to their view of the authority of LXX and therefore the Vulgate, whereas Protestant scholars upheld an Old Testament based on the Masoretic tradition. |
