Collins criticizes his attempt to distinguish texts that are culturally convergent from those that are antagonistic: the reality seldom admits of such a binary choice. On the other hand, Collins appreciates Barclay's more recent characterization of Hellenistic Jews as ‘cultural negotiators’. He then tests Barclay's ideas at more length against the Letter of Aristeas, finding in the text a combination of affirmation and critique of aspects of Hellenistic culture. | ||
