Summary: | The book of Esther proves to be a rewarding case study for those who wish to demonstrate in the classroom how an ancient text was expanded, altered, and transmitted in antiquity, how early versions adjusted the text they were translating, and how those versions were themselves subjected to revision and change. The major differences between the Hebrew text and the LXX are relatively well known. Less familiar to a general readership are the different Greek versions. Even less familiar are the Latin versions., We are now served well by recent publications on Esther. First come two fascicles in the Vetus Latina series. |
