The present book, however, lays the accent on these variations, not to weaken confidence in the authorship of the letters, but to show that they were elicited by different circumstances and therefore tempered to the needs and sensibilities of different addressees. That is to say, they have the characteristics of true letters, and lend themselves to the critical approaches which have shaped the study of Paul in the last three decades. | ||
