Summary:The topic of Matthew's use of the ‘Old Testament’ is a scholarly furrow that has been ploughed many times. In this study, the focus is particularly on Matthew's possible use of the book of Zechariah. Ham seeks to show that Matthew's dependence on Zechariah for some quotations and a number of allusions is a significant influence on his presentation of Jesus as a humble king and a rejected shepherd figure., An Introduction seeks to set the scene and establish a ‘research methodology’. Here the influence of Hays's work on Paul's use of Scripture is explicit and Ham clearly aligns himself with Hays's approach.
