Summary: | The thesis of this short but unusually fascinating and original quasi-commentary on the Book of Isaiah is closely related to Michael Goulder's earlier studies of the Psalms. In fact he finds in the Book of Isaiah further evidence for the ancient eight-day Autumn Festival which he had reconstructed as the original liturgical setting for the Psalms of Korah (Psalms 42–9; 84–9). An introductory chapter argues that the eight sections into which the 66 chapters of the book can be divided correspond to the eight festal days, and that Isaiah was first and foremost a preaching prophet, a ‘spectre at the feast’, rather than a writing prophet. |
