Eusebius bringt Zeugnis von den unterschiedlichen Situationen, in denen sich einige christliche Soldaten Alexandrias und Cäsareas in Palestina befanden, so wie auch die Märtyrer der Verfolgung des Diokletian. Sie haben ihre Karrieren bis zu dem Punkt verfolgt, an dem sich eine ihrem Glauben widerstrebende Situation ergab: Die Situation hing mit den heidnischen Riten der castra zusammen und hatte die Verweigerung militärischen Eingreifens und ihr Martyrium zur Folge. Im Kontext der konstantinischen Wende ist das Martyrium der Soldaten ein Modell gegen die Prätentionen der Verheiligung der kaiserlichen Macht geworden. Nach den historisch-theologischen Auffassungen des Eusebius kann der christliche Soldat gleichermaßen in erster Reihe an der göttlichen Vorsehung teilhaben und in den Rängen einer nunmehr christlichen Armee gegen die Feinde des Glaubens dienen. | ||
| 520 | |a Cet article met en évidence la contribution d’Eusèbe de Césarée à l’histoire des soldats martyrs et offre une lecture du martyre des soldats après le tournant constantinien. Eusèbe témoigne de la variété des situations dans lesquelles se sont trouvés certains soldats chrétiens d’Alexandrie et de Césarée de Palestine, ainsi que les martyrs de la persécution de Dioclétien. Ils ont poursuivi leur carrière jusqu’au moment où s’est présentée une situation qui constituait un obstacle à leur foi, situation liée aux rites païens des castra et qui a entraîné leur refus de l’engagement militaire et leur martyre. Dans le contexte du tournant constantinien, le martyre des soldats est devenu un modèle contre les prétentions de sacralisation du pouvoir impérial. En même temps, vu les conceptions historico-théologiques d’Eusèbe, le soldat chrétien peut participer en première ligne au plan providentiel de Dieu, en servant dans les rangs d’une armée désormais chrétienne contre les ennemis de la foi. | ||
| 520 | |a This article highlights Eusebius of Caesarea’s contribution to the history of the martyr soldiers and offers an interpretation of the soldiers’ martyrdom from after the Constantinian turn. Eusebius testifies to the variety of situations which certain Christian soldiers in Alexandria and Caesarea of Palestine, as well as the Diocletian persecution’s martyrs, found themselves in. They continued their careers until the moment when a situation arose representing an obstacle to their faith, a situation linked to the pagan rites of the castra and which led to their refusal of military engagement and martyrdom. In the context of the Constantinian turn, the soldiers’ martyrdom became a model against the claims of sacralization of imperial power. At the same time, given Eusebius’ historical-theological conceptions, the Christian soldier can participate on the front lines in God’s providential plan, while serving in the ranks of an army become Christian against the enemies of the faith. | ||
