Summary: | Itseems surprising when one reads the back cover of Andrew Tate's book that it is only in 2007 that we are presented with the first full-length study of the work of Douglas Coupland. The Canadian novelist has not only contributed to some of the most important discourses both within and about contemporary culture, he has also provided the impetus and awareness of the need for such discourse, including but not limited to those of art, authenticity and spirituality. Discourse that was once the domain of academics and religious leaders is ably shown by Coupland to reside within and emerge from the apparent superficiality of Western post-modern life., Tate's treatment spans the first decade and a half of work by one of the most innovative and influential novelists of the twenty-first century. |
