Since then, the Lectura Dantis has become a well-established tradition in the field of Dante Studies. The Lectura Dantis Purgatorio. A Canto-by-Canto Commentary is a volume of collected essays, each by a different Dantista, and is the companion to Allen Mandelbaum's English translation of the Commedia. The commentary to the Inferno has already been published; the Lectura Dantis Purgatorio is going to be followed by a volume of collected essays on the Paradiso., It is noteworthy that about one-third of the 33 contributors are women; most essayists are North Americans, but European scholars are also well represented.
