| 520 | |a O objetivo é distinguir, nos escritos jesuíticos e nas fonnulações dos reformadores iluministas ligados ao Despotismo Esclan:cido, continuidades e descontinuidades com a tradição eclética que vinha caracterizando as sociedades ibéricas, particularmente a espanhola, desde o século XVI, representada então pela hegemonia da Companhia de Jesus, com as qual os reformadores ilustrados do século XVIII se propõem a romper. A idéia é abordar a disputa entre os reformadores iluministas e os jesuítas enquanto uma competição entre duas diferentes apropriações de um conjunto de proposições filosóficas em voga no século XVIII, considerando que tanto os jesuítas quanto os chamados 'iluministas ibéricos' tentavam conciliar as novas idéias com premissas tradicionais, ainda que em diferentes direções. O embate trava-se, portanto, no interior do iluminismo ibérico, tanto metropolitano quanto colonial. A oposição metrópole-colõnia vem à tona devido à influência exercida pelos jesuítas na Nova Espanha para a emergência de uma consciência crioula, expressa em uma 'ciência patriótica', misturando história natural, teologia e política. | ||
| 520 | |a The aim of this article is to demonstrate, in the Jesuit writings and in the formulations of the reformers Iinked to enlightened despotism, the continuities and discontinuities with the eclectic tradition that had characterized Iberian societies, particularly Spain, since the sixteenth century. This tradition was well represented by the hegemony of the Society of Jesus, with which the eighteenth century Enlightenment reformers intended to break. lhe idea is to approach the dispute between Enlightenment reformers and Jesuits as a competition between two different interpretations of a body of philosophical propositions in vogue during the eighteenth century, considering that both the Jesuits and the named "enlightened Iberians" were trying to reconcile new ídeas with tradítíonal ones, although in different directions. Actually this battle takes place wíthin the Iberian Enlightenment, both in its metropolitan and colonial versions. The "motherland-colony" opposition surfaces due to the Jesuit influence in New Spain on the emergence of Creole consciousness, expressed in a "patriotic science", mixing natural history, theology and politics. | ||
