Hanno anche una dimensione politica, in quanto che sono feno- meni resi legali, finanziati e eseguiti da organismi dello Stato: leggi, sentenze dei tribunali ordinari e delle corti costituzionali, sistemi sanitari pubblici, ecc. Perciò tali comportamenti vanno considerati anche dal punto di vista dell’etica politica, cioè dell’etica delle istituzioni politiche. Essa valuta gli atti dell’apparato pubblico secondo il loro rapporto al bene comune politico, che comprende fondamental- mente tre ambiti di valore: la pace e la sicurezza, la libertà e la giustizia. In rapporto a questi valori l’unico compito dello Stato riguardante la vita è la promozione e la tutela. Non è funzione dello Stato dare la morte. L’idea che possa esistere un diritto che comporta la morte, oggi in pratica ammessa da molti ordinamenti giuridici, presuppone una mutata comprensione delle ragioni del nostro vivere insieme che deve essere oggetto di un’approfondita riflessione. Nowadays, abortion and euthanasia are not exclusively personal actions. They also have a political dimension, since they are phenomena that are made legal, financed and executed by state bodies: laws, judgments of ordinary courts and constitutional courts, public health systems, etc. Therefore, these behaviors must also be considered from the point of view of political ethics, that is, the ethics of political institutions. It evaluates the acts of the public apparatus according to their relationship to the political common good, which fundamentally includes three areas of value: peace and security, freedom and justice. In relation to these values, the only task of the state concerning life is promotion and protection. It is not the function of the state to give death. The idea that there may be a right that involves death, which is now practically admitted by many legal systems, presupposes a changed understanding of the reasons for our living together which must be the subject of in-depth reflection. | ||
