La connessione tra Ebraismoe Cristianesimo era certamente molto più percepita all’epoca di quanto lo sia oggi.L’intento di questo contributo è quello di focalizzare sull’utilizzo delle cosiddettegammadiae, simboli dal significato confusionario, studiati spesso in manieraimprecisa, che sembrano invece rivestire un ruolo specifico sia nelle raffigurazionigiudaiche che in quelle cristiane dei primi secoli: indicherebbero visivamentel’elevazione morale del personaggio indossatore del pallio da esse contrassegnato.Mentre nelle testimonianze giudaiche sono i Giusti ad essere distinti da questacaratteristica visiva, nel Cristianesimo lo sono Cristo, i santi, gli apostoli, i martiri.Si percepisce un filo rosso di continuità. Le gammadiae appaiono, allora, comeindicatori di quei personaggi scelti dal Signore come se, in un certo senso, fossestato radicato negli eletti un seme divino sin dal principio. While the Jewish representations seem related to a narrative development, inparticular in the synagogue of Dura Europos, the Christian representations arelimited to some symbolic excerpts, referred to salvific messages. The connectionbetween Judaism and Christianitywas certainly much more felt at the time than today. The aim of this contribution is to focus on the use of the so-called gammadiae,symbols with a confusing meaning, often studied in an imprecise way, whichseem to play a specific role in both the Jewish and Christian scenes of the earlycenturies: they would visually indicate the moral elevation of the character whowear the pallium marked by the gammadiae. While in the Jewish representations,this visual feature distinguish the Righteous people, in the Christianity the areChrist, the saints, the apostles and the martyrs. A red thread of continuity isperceived. Then, the gammadiae appear as indicators of those characters chosenby the Lord as if, in a certain sense, a divine seed had been rooted in the electpeople from the beginning. | ||
