520 |a Um dos temas mais caros à psicologia é o estudo das atitudes. Contudo, a assunção sistemática de crenças e experiências altamente exóticas em seu contexto de origem apresenta um desafio explicativo. Entre os tantos exemplos presentes em nossa cultura estão o extremismo religioso, as crenças na Terra plana, e as alegações e convicções sobre contatos com alienígenas. Propõe-se como contribuição para o campo o modelo da espiral ascendente de complexidade, que participa da explicação para a assunção de crenças e experiências heterodoxas de modo não persuasivo, além de adequado às características cognitivas humanas amplamente conhecidas. Tal modelo tem implicações práticas, como ao alicerçar novos programas de reabilitação de terroristas e iniciativas de divulgação científica voltadas ao enfrentamento de teorias conspiratórias. 
520 |a One of the most important themes in psychology is the study of attitudes. However, the systematic assumption of beliefs and experiences highly exotic in their context of origin presents itself as an explanatory challenge. Among the many examples in our culture are religious extremism, beliefs on the Flat Earth, and allegations and convictions about contacts with aliens. The upward spiral of complexity is proposed as a contribution to the field, which participates in the explanation for the assumption of heterodox beliefs and experiences in a non persuasive way, in addition to be suitable to the human cognitive characteristics widely known. This model has practical implications, such as grounding new terrorist rehabilitation programs and scientific outreach initiatives aimed at confronting conspiracy theories.
