Summary: | This paper intends to approach some of the central problems related to the presence of religion and Religious Teaching at school. The main topics are the object of Religious Teaching and the nature of its epistemology. Religious Teaching must be the teaching of religion? Religious assumptions, like the belief in God, are implied in Religious Teaching? Is Religious Teaching at school, in the end, religious or academic? What is its relation with other disciplines of the Humanities? And with the Science of Religion? What is the concept of religion involved in Religious Teaching? These are the central questions discussed in the article. The position sustained is that the object of Religious Teaching is religion as a human phenomenon and that the epistemology of the discipline belongs to the field of the Humanities, mostly to the Science of Religion. |
