Description
Summary:This essay attempts the construction of a possible ars moriendi for the 21st Century by tracing the contradictions in which one incurs when juxtaposing the concept of the sacredness of life and that of its quality. Death, in far as it constitutes a limit, must be considered as the «specific» of human existence. Consciously facing this limit, accompanying and not fleeing from those who cross it, is the evolutionary venture for medicine in the near future. Only in this perspective of reconciliation between life and death as two reciprocally necessary moments, the sacred nature of human life -understood not as untouchable but as responsible management of its limits - becomes unfolded.
