| Итог: | The need for adequate missionary training is paramount. There has always existed such a need as well as the recognition of that need. Current trends, however, show a decline in adequate missionary preparedness. This article reports on a survey of mission organizations' missionary training, notes six characteristics of a well-trained missionary, and argues that training must integrate formal (knowledge/knowing), non-formal (skills/doing), and informal (character and spirituality/being) methods of training. The growing number of missionaries from the Two-Thirds World and their need for adequate training is discussed. We must work to close the gap between generalized formal theological training done at seminaries and Bible colleges and the specific experiential training and research needed to prepare people for effective cross-cultural mission. |
