520 |a While sowers and reapers surely rejoice together (John 4:36), the issue of relations between denominations from the North who planted the seeds of the gospel and denominations in the South which developed is complex. North-South partnerships in mission have a history which includes failures and success, cries for autonomy and for interdependence, and experiences of separation and ecumenism, of exclusion and solidarity, of death and resurrection. This essay describes the emergence of three Presbyterian denominations in Brazil and analyzes their relationships with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and its antecedents, as well as the role of missionaries and missions.
