| Summary: | Charity from the haves to the have-nots, as the only model for the Church's service ministry, is as dated as political colonialism. At the annual meeting of the American Society of Missiology last June in Dubuque, Iowa, Father Monticello reflected on this ministry of the Church today from the perspective of his tradition. Drawing both on current official documents and on the writings of other Catholic scholars, he took a fresh look at the setting and thrust of Jesus' ministry and applied this to his analysis of the contemporary scene —with particular attention to the implications for American Christians. This paper and the responses which follow it contribute to the missiological dimension of today's ongoing salvation/liberation debate. |
