Such an investigation reveals: that (1) the Aqedah's compositional shape is the result of the author's perception of textual and theological similarities common to Gen. 22, the biblical Passover account, and portions of the book of Job; and that (2) the Aqedah functions as narrative paranesis—rigorous obedience to covenant stipulations delivers faithful Israelites from temptation and physical harm at the hands of demonic forces, as well as the threat of eternal perdition. | ||
