Summary: | The meaning of 'Good Spirit', whether as part of Luke's autograph (it is the reading that some churches regarded as original and therefore was the one requiring interpretation) or as part of the apparatuscriticus, lies in the context of the two passages in LXX where 'Good Spirit' was already found, associated with Prayer, Torah and Way (2 Esdr. 19.20 [Neh. 9.20]; Ps. 142.10 [143.10]). Its meaning there was reactivated either by the evangelist or by an interpreter familiar with LXX. Egyptian, Zoroastrian and Neronian contexts may also be relevant. |
