Summary: | This lecture uses the model of the East Berlin Sprachenkonvikt (seminary) to demonstrate why and how the church had to take scholarly based vocational training for theologians into its own hands in East Germany. The faculties of theology at socialist universities could not provide independent, church-oriented research and teaching, which is why church seminaries such as the East Berlin Sprachenkonvikt set standards for the training of theologians. The lecture explores the difficult circumstances of the seminary's existence and the priorities it chose to set in its work. |
