The problem of theodicy is consequently not taken on as the reduction of pain sub specie aeternitatis, but becomes anchored to the history of the people of Israel, to that memoria passionis which drowns in the Egyptian captivity and becomes the privileged space for meeting God, invoked and supplicated to come to the help of his people. The relationship with God thus conceived takes on universal meaning already in Psalm 82, where the invocation of justice joins the hope that social renewal may conquer the prevailing forms of prevarication. Invoked justice is thus to be seen as saving and punitive at the same time, a justice of which one cannot idly expert the eschatological colonization, but one in which the believer is already involved in now as its militant forbearer.
