Tillich’s theology of art and culture provides the theoretical background for these reflections, as well as a phenomenology of the experience of art and of the transcen-dent with particular attention being paid to the sensorial and sensual dimensions of these experiences. The analysis of Yves Klein’s monochromes shows that it is the precarious balance of absence and presence, achieved through a process of abstraction and reduction of figurative elements, that is most favorable to an experience of absolute meaning in the reception process, which however always also depends on and requires the active partici-pation of the recipients in their sensual and intellectual capacities. | ||
