Description
Summary:Prostitution: an expression of emancipation or unequal gender ratios? There are dif-ferent reasons why heterosexual prostitution cannot be considered as part of emancipation of women in general. For example, women who begin to prostitute themselves rarely think they will be doing so for a long time. Professional behavior of prostitutes is considered as an ability to disconnect one’s own body from its feelings, but this view is based on a dichotomy with regard to the comprehension of human beings. From an ethical point of view, having sex in a prostitutional setting compared with making love with a partner is not the same and not of equal value. Nonetheless we have to think about how a state has to deal with an institution contributing to gender inequality. Prohibition is not a good solution. Instead we should improve the situation of prostitutes by different measures.
