From an anthropological point of view, mass is a typical example of a symbolic action: its principal materials are bread and wine fi rst used by Jesus in the Last Supper. They «signify ̈ (with differences among the Christian Churches) the Body and the Blood of Jesus Christ. Bread and wine are not universal foods. Wine, in particular, holds different meanings (including moral ones) in the various civilizations. Hence a legitimate question about the «universality ̈ of Christianity: universality of right and not of fact? | ||
