Description
Summary:In recent years, there has been a growing interest from researchers in the catalogs of Portuguese convent libraries. These documents - arising within the scope of the censorship policy applied by the government of the Marquis of Pombal and prepared following the edict promulgated by the Real Mesa Censória on July 10, 1769 - contain valuable information that allows to know, among other aspects, the scope of the respective bibliographic collections, the format of the species, the languages of the texts, as well as the areas of knowledge represented, the authors and the respective works. This article intends to make known the contents of the library of Barefoot Carmelites of Saint Albert (Lisbon), starting from the transcription of the catalog prepared in 1769 - 70, currently kept in the National Library of Portugal. The importance of this cenobium comes from the fact that it was the first female convent of the teresian reform founded in Portugal.
