No entanto, um exame da questão demonstra que a IgrejaPresbiteriana do Brasil nasceu do protestantismo pietista, puritano, de vertentemissionária norte-americana dos séculos XVIII e XIX. Neste artigoo autor demonstra ainda que a ética protestante do trabalho de Webernão se relaciona com o pensamento teológico de João Calvino, sendomais apropriado relacionar as categorias weberianas com as representações sociais do protestantismo europeu e norte-americano do século XIX. Taiscategorias são válidas para as imagens do protestantismo brasileiro do mesmo século. The contemporary researcher usually attributes the origin of the Brazilian Protestantism to the European Protestantism of John Calvin. In this article the author compares the main theological categories of the thought of John Calvin with the protestant ethics of Max Weber, demonstrating that the advent of the modern capitalism is a process subsequent to the Protes-tant Reformation of the XVIth century, which may had been a product of the North American protestant culture. The article thus looks forward to make clear the similarities and contrasts that may be found between the workmanship of Calvin and the thought of Weber, particularly in respect to the field of the ethics of work.
