As the protagonist of an open discourse with ancient philosophy and culture, the Church Father rejects a fideist faith and advocates the transmission of knowledge of faith as well as faith reflection. Contrary to a prevailing mistrust of pagan philosophy, he acknowledges this as a preparatory education. In a multicultural, Christianity rejecting environment, he pursues an approach using dialogue. With the philosophical vocabulary of his time, he seeks to develop an epistemology against the charge of a non-rational, non articulable faith. For the first time he deals essentially with the rationality of the act of faith. His central concern is a perichoresis of faith and reason. | ||
