Σύνοψη: | One hundred years ago William Ritchie Sorley’s book »Moral Value and the Idea of God« appeared in print. This is an occasion to reflect about this book from a contemporary point of view and to present its main theses to the German reader : the semantical, metaphysical and epistemological theses as well as the argument from the objective validity of moral values to the existence of God. Several possible interpretations of this argument are presented. The article tries to show that Sorley holds a metaethical cognitivism plus a certain kind of moral realism, a position which can be brought into a fruitful dialogue with contemporary discussions in moral theory. |
