Summary: | We study in this paper the figure of Pedro José Baena and Nuñez who was General Vicar of Estepa. He was the leading priest of a minor prefecture that governed a region or nullius dioecesis which corresponded to the Marquise lands of Estepa. We are especially interested on studying his behavior during the French occupation period (1810-12) by means of a judgment called “purification” which was opened to him just after the French exit. This judgment is kept in the archives of Estepa Vicar that are nowadays placed in the Archbishop archives., Con el presente trabajo nos acercamos a la figura de don Pedro José Baena y Núñez, quien fuera vicario general de Estepa, esto es, titular de una prelacía menor que gobernaba eclesiásticamente una jurisdicción exenta o nullius dioecesis que comprendía el territorio de lo que fue el marquesado de Estepa; especialmente se analiza su comportamiento durante la ocupación francesa de este territorio entre los años 1810 y 1812, del cual hemos tenido conocimiento a través de un proceso judicial que se le incoó, llamado de purificación, al poco tiempo de la marcha de los franceses y que se conserva en el archivo de la vicaría de Estepa, custodiado hoy en el del arzobispado hispalense. |
