Description
Summary:During the last years of Modern Age and through the whole Contemporary Era, the celebration of Holy Week became the most important event in the city of Seville. The arrival of Duke of Montpensier during the 19th Century made the city and its Holy Week a touristic event at European and international level. Within this context is outstanding the new and restored King Alfonso XII ́s visit to the city during 1877, a visit in which his legendary romance with her cousin Maria de las Mercedes started. He was present in many activities in the city, was astonished by the majesty of the celebration of the Triduum Sacrum in the Cathedral, giving the title of Many Excellence to its Chapter and even taking the presidence of the Holy Burial Procession, meaning the very first time that a descendent from King St. Fernando did such circumstance in a Sevillian Procession., En los últimos años de la Edad Moderna y ya a lo largo de toda la Contemporánea, la celebración de la Semana Santa de Sevilla se convierte en la gran fiesta religiosa de la urbe hispalense.
